The 971XT Helium from Thule is an extremely light aluminum hitch rack that weighs about half as much as a typical hitch mounted bike rack, making handling, installation, and removal all easier than they’ve ever been before. Also adding to the ease of use is the integrated receiver knob that allows for tool-free installation; simply slide it into the hitch receiver and tighten the knob. The narrow arms on the Helium carry either two or three bikes depending on the model and allow for carrying a wider range of bike frames, including smaller child size frames. They even feature Thule’s T3 Cradles with No-Sway Cages that provide stability while minimizing bike-to-bike contact. The arms on the Helium fold down when not in use for a lower profile and the Hitch Switch allows you to tilt the Helium away from your vehicle for easy access to the rear door or tailgate. Included with the Helium is an adaptor that allows use in either a 2” or 1 Ľ” hitch receiver, and integrated locking cable and receiver lock knob that secures the bike to the carrier and the carrier to the car.
