The 847 Outrigger II from Thule is an extension bar designed to make it easier for solo kayakers to get their boat up and onto the roof of taller vehicles. The Outrigger II is installed on standard Thule square load bars in place of one of the end caps and is fully retractable inside the load bar. It only occupies slightly more space than a typical end cap would, so you don’t lose any real estate on your Thule load bars. To utilize the Outrigger II, you just extend it and flip up the integrated load stop on the end. Then, just hoist your boat up onto the bar, and it provides a safe pivot point, so there’s no contact between your kayak and vehicle. The integrated load stop keeps the whole operation safe, making sure your boat doesn’t slip off while loading and unloading.
